Perth Hills Dog Trainer
Hi, I’m Karen.
I’m an IMDT-qualified dog trainer, and my journey into training began with my own dog, Ollie. When Ollie was young, he developed anxiety after being confined to our property while recovering from a leg operation. Missing that early socialization window was tough, and I wanted to understand how to help him regain confidence and enjoy the world again.
Through patience, empathy, and consistent training, Ollie learned to feel safe on walks and built the foundations for a more confident, happy life. Even at five, he still loved learning new tricks — and he taught me more about understanding dogs than any textbook ever could.
A Personal Note:
Ollie passed away on October 16th, 2024. He taught me so much, and I’ll always be grateful for the lessons he shared with me. His absence is deeply felt, and I miss him every day. Moving forward, Molly will now be assisting me in class, continuing the journey Ollie and I started together.
My Training Philosophy:
At Kalapups Dog Training, I believe true training starts with understanding how a dog feels — not just what they do. My approach is gentle, relationship-based, and completely force-free. Every dog learns best when they feel safe, calm, and understood, and my goal is to help owners build that connection through clear communication and confidence.
Whether it’s helping a puppy settle into the world or supporting a more anxious or reactive dog, I focus on creating trust and lasting results that make life better for both dog and owner.
I started Kalapups Dog Training to support owners in my local community — Gooseberry Hill and the surrounding areas of Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Walliston, Forrestfield, Orange Grove, Wattle Grove, and Bickley. I offer a range of private sessions and small group classes to meet you and your dog where you are and help you move forward together.
